PLANTATION IS HOME

Companies such as American Express, Citibank, Kemper Insurance, and Motorola have something in common – they call Plantation home.  Home is a place that is safe, secure and welcoming.  Home is where these companies, their employees and their families live and thrive.  Plantation is their home because it offers them what they need to grow and be successful.

Location

Plantation's prime location is the geographical center of Broward County and the entire South Florida region.  Because of this prime location, everything that these companies need is within a stone’s throw.  Plantation is nestled between South Florida’s three major interstate highways – the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 95 running north and south and Interstate 595 running east and west.  The Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Port Everglades are both a mere 8 minutes by car.  Plantation offers all the amenities of a large city, but in the safe and secure environment of small town America.

Savvy businesses have realized the benefits of this successful mix.  Companies are able to attract employees from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.  However, most companies are able to fulfill their employment needs from the labor pool right in Plantation.  The city has one of the shortest average commute times per employee in all of South Florida.  That means that it is easy to live and work in Plantation.  Since it is common to hear horror stories of legendary commutes, living and working in the same community means happy employees.  Of course, happy employees are productive employees.

Workforce

The new millennium brings with it a heightened demand for employees with technical skills.  More than ever, companies need to have easy access to state-of-the-art training and lifelong learning opportunities.  Plantation is adjacent to the South Florida Educational Center, which is comprised of Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University and Broward Community College campuses.  Plantation companies enjoy the availability of a wide range of educational opportunities. Middle management, in particular, is attracted to the availability of many accredited graduate, doctoral and post-graduate programs.

Stability

In a world that is full of uncertainty, Plantation strives to offer a sense of stability to its corporate and residential community.  The city’s leadership has balanced a conservative fiscal approach with a targeted investment strategy.  This approach, coupled with the city’s diverse corporate profile, has created a broad tax base that ensures a stable and sustainable business environment in PlantationPlantation has the lowest tax rate of any large Broward County city, which proves that a good home doesn’t necessarily have to be an expensive one.

Plantation has built a reputation as a well-planned and administered community.  Because Plantation is a master-planned community, residents and businesses co-exist peacefully.  The city prides itself on the rapport it has built between government officials, the chamber of commerce and the business community.  Together, the community cooperates to create a place where businesses and families thrive, thanks to Plantation's clean, safe, and fun atmosphere full of recreational and leisure activities.

Expansion

It should be no surprise then, that Plantation is a leader for corporate relocation.  For instance, Kemper National Services, the managed health care division of Kemper National Insurance Companies, moved to Plantation in 1993.  Since then it has doubled in size, both in terms of office space and number of employees.  Likewise, Citibank had to increase its local staff by more than 50% less than a year after moving to Plantation so that it could more effectively offer its banking and investment services to area executives.  Motorola and American Express have also found great success in Plantation , having had a positive influence on the business climate in the city.

You Are Home

And after companies choose to call Plantation home, they begin to find more reasons to stay.  People fall in love with the rambling, winding tree-lined boulevards, the daily dose of South Florida sunshine and the scenic views of tropical greenery just outside their office window.  Plantation is also home to countless amenities such as meeting and special function spaces, full and limited service hotels, world-class shopping and unparalleled public parks and recreation facilities.  A Plantation restaurant has been consistently voted “Best Business Lunch” in Broward county for years.  (We will let you sample them all and discover which one – we promise it will be a delicious pursuit!)

Businesses that move to Plantation find that they get a lot more than just location.  They become part of one of the most friendly and exciting communities in South Florida – a place they can call home.
